  • The Bird of Paradise plant is a species of flowering plant native to South Africa, where it grows along the coastal bush of the eastern Cape as an important nectar source for birds
  • Common name references the plant’s ornate flower that bears resemblance to the head and beak of a colorful, exotic bird
  • Fairly low maintenance plant bearing excellent foliage for those looking to have a statement plant in a space
  • 18-24 inch wide, 3-4 foot long banana tree-like leaves that arise from the base of the plant and blooms in a round, spear-like form

*All plants are sold in a nursery pot.
**Decorative pots are sold separately.

***In-Store Pick Up Only***

  • The Bird of Paradise plant favors bright, indirect light
  • Can tolerate filtered, direct light for a couple hours at a time, but avoid practicing this too often as the plant’s leaves can burn
  • Likes a slightly shady spot in a typically well-lit room, rotate plant periodically to ensure an even light is captured all around

  • Keep soil slightly moist, allow it to dry out a bit in-between watering

  • Plant in a well-draining, organic soil, possibly mixed with compost to promote fertility
  • Don’t plant roots too deeply into soil, exposure to the top of the roots encourages flowering
  • Heavy feeders, can be fertilized every two weeks throughout the summer and monthly in the winter

  • Considered toxic to humans and animals
  • Leaves and stems are mildly toxic to humans if large amount is consumed
  • The ingestion of flowers and seeds can cause dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, and drowsiness
